Expert Advice - Choose the Perfect Tile

Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some information on the three basic types of tile flooring: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

What are the Different Types of Tile?

There are three main types of tile: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are the most common residential flooring option. Ceramic and porcelain are made of the same materials, but porcelain is denser. Most porcelain tiles are very resistant to heat and moisture, and they are a great option for outdoor patios. Both ceramic and porcelain are available in traditional tile looks and a wide array of vibrant or neutral colors, and even follow trends like wood look.

For those looking for more high-end tile, we offer stone. Each stone tile features its own variation. Stone is usually treated and sealed to protect against spills, stains, and scratches, so it will last a long time if properly maintained.

Where Can Tile Be Installed?

Since tile is inherently durable and resistant to moisture, it can be installed anywhere in your home. Ceramic and porcelain are especially popular in kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms, but they also can be installed in living rooms and basements. Other tile options such as porcelain and stone can even be used outside as a patio or walkway.

As we mentioned earlier, tile can be installed on more than just floors. We offer tile that can be installed on walls, and even tile that can be installed as a custom shower stall. To learn more about tile applications, stop by our showroom and speak with our flooring professionals.
